Where's the Government broadband money gone? - 21st May 2010 |

The Government's plans to fund next-generation broadband have been plunged into disarray. The recently deposed Labour Government pledged to deliver 2Mbits/sec connections to every household in the UK by 2012, using the money left over from the digital television switchover fund. Today, the new Government said it is considering plans to use that same money to help fund the rollout of high-speed broadband, according to the full coalition agreement laid out by the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats. iPad sales "double" that of Macs - 21st May 2010 |

The Apple iPad is selling almost twice as well as Mac computers, according to new figures. RBC Capital Markets analyst Mike Abramsky claims the tablet is exceeding all expectations in the US, with sales almost reaching iPhone levels.

Europe outlines plan to boost broadband by 2020 - 20th May 2010 |

Half of European households will have broadband speeds of 30Mbps (megabits per second) by 2020, the European Union has pledged. It also promised universal broadband coverage by 2013 while getting half of Europeans using public services and shopping online by 2015. It is part of the European Union's five year plan for the digital economy.

British web users are spending 65% more time online than three years ago, according to a survey of net habits. The average surfer spends 22 hours and 15 minutes on the net each month, according to the UK Online Measurement company (UKOM).

New MacBook arrives on Apple UK store - 19th May 2010 |

The MacBook update that was leaked over the weekend has gone official, with the UK Apple store offering the latest laptop for £849.
The new entry level MacBook features a 2.4GhzIntel Core 2 Duo, 2GB DDR3 RAM and 250 GB of storage.
The MacBook – which is priced at £150 less than the 13 inch MacBook Pro, also boasts an extended 10 hour battery life, a significant increase on its predecessor.

Bad news if you're holding your breath for the iPad - the release date for the UK has been put back, again. In less than 18 months there will be no more big blocks of net addresses to give out, estimates suggest. Predictions name 9 September 2011 as the date on which the last of those tranches is released for net firms and others to use. Everything connected to the net needs an "IP address" to ensure data reaches the right person or device. Experts say that the net's entire existing address space will be exhausted about a year after that date. Apple boss Steve Jobs explains ban on Flash - 30th April 2010 |

Steve Jobs has used an open letter to defend Apple's decision not to allow Flash on many of the firm's products. Neither the iPod, iPhone nor iPad can run the software despite the widespread use of Flash technology on websites for video and animations. He said Flash was made for an era of "PCs and mice" and performed poorly when translated to run on touchscreen smartphones and handheld devices.
