Western Morning News Press Release

An IT business that began with big hopes, few resources and no customers aims to double its £1 million turnover within the next five years.

AME Exminster-based AME Solutions was founded by Steve Westaway and Simon House in 2005, with a desk, a phone, a laptop - and not a single client.

The company installs, administers and maintains computer wired and wireless networks and offers troubleshooting services including disaster recovery and virus protection. It also provides office relocation and website design and offers a range of IT courses.

Mr Westaway said: "We knew we had the skills base to start a business, and we soon attracted a number of solid clients." The business now has an annual turnover of £1 million and 12 employees and specialises in technical support, computer network solutions and training. It has maintained its current turnover for two years, despite the recession.

Its client base primarily comprises SMEs - but local government, utility, housing and charitable sector are also among the businesses that use AME's IT services. The business is also now an accredited Microsoft Gold Certified Partner and has recruited a Microsoft-qualified systems engineer, as well as a sales and marketing executive, over the past year.Mr Westaway said: "Our fundamental principle is to ensure that we look after the customers we've got and provide them with quality services. "This can only be achieved by investing in our staff and providing them with the training they need".

AME's success has seen it acquire a growing reputation for training companies, organisations and individuals looking to expand their skills in general IT as well as specialist areas including, project management, tendering, and accounts. Mr House said: "We use qualified instructors and offer courses for virtually every desktop application used in the world of business. " The company has also experienced a "surge in interest" in its project management package, which has attracted clients including Devon County Council, the NHS, news agency Thomson Reuters and South West Water. Looking ahead to AME's turnover growth plans, Mr House said: "Our growth will be based on a business plan which includes on-going training for our own staff, investment in classroom and onsite training, and developing relationships with new and existing clients."
