Lenovo MiiX review
Our Engineer is setting up a Lenovo MiiX 10” 2in1 Windows tablet/laptop today for a customer, perfect companion device with a detachable keyboard to use whilst out and about.
With Lenovo Miix, the first thing we noticed was how lightweight it is when you compare it to similar products such as the iPad 4 and the Surface Pro. It’s been built with travel in mind.
The Miix is a 10.1” tablet with a HD multi-touch screen, the resolution is slightly lower than it’s competitors at 1280×800 but for the price you pay for it, it is reasonable.
The Miix features a detachable keyboard, which it does so incredibly easy, with it being held in place by magnets. It is worth noting that this will draw more power as it does not contain any extra batteries, one of the reasons why it remains so light. It also gives you more ports to connect and charge your devices.
The design, whilst it might look like it is from the Apple family, is made of plastic rather than aluminium or metal, but we feel Lenovo have done a pretty good job in making it look as though it is metal which is why it looks a lot sleeker than the price tag suggests.
The Miix has an Atom processor and the overall performance is okay, so long as you recognise that these sort of Atom-powered tablets are really only there to serve as a companion device and not to replace your Windows PC or laptop. Where the Atom processors really come into their own is battery life. The Miix is advertised as having a 10-hour battery life, which means that it’s great for travel as you can use it for a full day without having to look for a charger.
You get the best of both worlds with the Miix, a fully functional laptop and tablet in one device. You would not want to use this device all the time for everyday work, but it is perfect for those looking for a companion device to use whilst out or travelling. Be careful when purchasing this item though if you’re looking to be able to access your corporate network you need to ensure that you purchase the option with Windows 10 Pro.
The Miix is a budget companion device and we feel that you get a decent machine for your money however if you are looking for a device that can handle more intensive task then the Miix is not for you.
