£25.7m broadband boost for South West
The West country has been awarded a £25.7 million slice of a £250 million government scheme to upgrade broadband links in the hardest to reach rural areas of the UK.
The settlement was announced as part of a £250 million extension to the Broadband Delivery UK programme which aims to bring high speed broadband links to 95% of the country by 2017 – an increase of 5% on the current programme.
The £132 million Superfast Cornwall initiative is now well under way to deliver upgrades in Cornwall with the £94 million Connecting Devon and Somerset project now starting to ramp up in the rest of the region.
An announcement from the Department for Culture, Media & Sport shows that Cornwall will receive an additional £2.96 million while Devon and Somerset will get an extra £22.75 million.
