This summer AME are holding a summer golf challenge, all the teams are now registered and our 1st match took place last week. Find out how the first team got on.
After our first team had to drop out due to a knee injury, we had to wait a few weeks until round 1 could take place. On Friday 9th June Dave Richards (a pub and hospitality Stock taker) and Alan House from APH Heating turned up ready and raring to go in team outfits to take on Simon and I.
Simon and I had to give away 35 shots, so we knew we were in for a tough match.
After 9 holes, no one had won a hole and it was all square. Only birdies from Simon for half were keeping us in the game. Then on the 10th hole the game changed as I had a par to win the hole. I followed up with a birdie on 11 to go 2 up.
Dave’s par on 12th with a shot bought it back to 1. A great par from the guys looked good, but Simon holed another birdie putt for a half.
Dave and Alan made hard work of the 14th, meaning both Simon and I didn’t even need to have a putt for birdie. I hit 2 great shots on the hardest hole on the back nine and a par was good enough to go 3 up with 3 to play. A great 3 from Dave on 16 reduced our lead to 2. Another birdie from Simon on the 17th finally won the game for us 3&1.
What a game…. a hard fought, but friendly halved from nine then came to life. 6 birdies for Simon and 2 for myself finally made the difference against these 2 great guys. A big thanks to Dave and Alan for taking on our challenge and for bringing the chocolate, sweets and pork pies.
Next up on Friday 23rd June is Scott Singleton from SES and Stuart Kew from Jewson.
