Here is the full golf report from Steve about the 2nd AME golf challenge;
On Friday 23rd June Stuart Kew from Jewson and Scott Singleton from SES arrived at the Exeter Golf and Country Club ready with the banter to try and put Simon and I off.
Whether or not the banter was to play a part, I am not sure, but it was a fantastic match that went all the way to the wire.
From the very first hole we could see it was going to be a challenge. Simon made a great pitch up to the hole for a tap in birdie and then Scott chipped in from off the green for a birdie as well to half the hole. What a start!
We then made very easy work of the 2nd and 3rd hole to go 2 up. I made a very lengthy putt on the 5th hole for birdie to take us 3 up and it was all looking good for us. A great bunker shot and putt from Stu on the 6th and we were back to 2 up. A par was enough from me on the 8th to take us back to 3 up, but then it went a little wrong for Simon and I. Stu had pars on 9th, 10th and 11th and the match was suddenly all square.
I drove the green on 13 to setup an eagle and we felt we had this hole in the bag. However Stu made a fantastic recovery with his second shot, managing to skip the bunker and role on to the green and with 2 putts made a net birdie. My eagle putt just slipped past the hole and Scott made me putt a 1 footer to half the hole with a birdie. Simon then made a birdie on 14, again only to half the hole. A par from Simon on the 15th was enough to put us 1 up again, only for Stu then par the 16th with a shot to put it back to all square and only 2 holes remaining. A great drive from Simon on the 17th setup a birdie, but Stu rolled in a par putt with a shot for another half. All these birdies and we just couldn’t shake them. Stu and Scott both had shots going down 18 and we knew we needed another. With Scott needing just a 2 foot putt for par, both Simon and I had good look at birdies. I was first to go and saw mine go a little low past the pin, meaning Simon needed to hole a slippery 5 foot downhill putt just to half the game. The tension was building and with a little left to right break the ball found its way into the cup. A final birdie from Simon was enough for us to finish the match all square.
A fantastic up and down match, with some amazing golf and some lucky breaks. Well done Stu and Scott. This now puts you in the driving seat to win the tablets at the end of the year, but there are many more matches to come.
Next up on Friday 18th August is Shaun and Alex from Bakare Beds.
