Microsoft are ending support for several of their products in 2020.
We recommend that any customers that have these solutions look to consider upgrading before the support ends.
Windows 7 Support Ends January 2020
One of the most important is that Windows 7 Support is ending in January 2020. This means that Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or support for PCs running Windows 7.
Whilst you will still be able to use Windows 7, your PC will become more vulnerable to security risks.
Therefore, we would recommend that if you have any Windows 7 PCs, now is the time to budget to upgrade these machines to either Window’s 10 or look to replace these machines before January 2020.
Office 2010 support Ends 13th October 2020
Office 2010 will reach its end of support on 13th October 2020, if you haven’t upgraded your Office 2010 licences we recommend you start now.
After October 2020, Microsoft will no longer provide technical support for issues, bug fixes for issues that are discovered and security fixes for vulnerabilities
With Office 2010 reaching its end of support, this is a good time to explore your options and prepare an upgrade plan to either of these latest versions of Office:
- Office 365, the subscription version of Office. There are several plans available depending on your requirements.
- Office 2019, which is sold as a one-time purchase and available for one computer per license.
A key difference between Office 365 and Office 2019 is that Office 365 is updated on a regular basis, as often as monthly, with new features. Office 2019 only has the same features that it had when it was released in October 2018.
Windows Server 2008 and Exchange 2010 support ends 14thJanuary 2020
Windows 2008 R2 and Exchange 2010 support will end on 14thJanuary 2020, whilst this still seems a way off updating your IT infrastructure can be a large task and therefore now is the time to start planning.
End of support refers to the date when Microsoft no longer provides automatic fixes, updates, or online technical assistance.Vulnerabilities in the operating system that are discovered after this date will not be fixed by Microsoft. Furthermore, after that date Microsoft will no longer off any type of support for the operating system. It won’t be long before those systems are specifically targeted and exploited.
A server operating system upgrade likely requires a new server and possibly new software. In addition to this migrating your email requires careful consideration too. Therefore It is time to begin planning now.
