We would like to advise that as well as the recent Microsoft Office 365 scams, there is another more serious scam that appears to be from HM Revenue and Customs that is targeting business and users alike. The scam comes through via email and details that you are eligible for a tax refund. The email asks for your information in order for them to send payment to you electronically.
Below is an example of the email:
HMRC never send notifications by email about tax rebates or refunds.
Our advice is; DO NOT:
- visit the website
- open any attachments
- disclose any personal or payment information
- or click on any of the links within the email.
To help the HMRC investigations team, they advise that you report all HMRC related phishing emails to them. Even if you get the same or similar phishing email often, please email the scam to email@example.com and then permanently delete it.
If you think you may have been effected by this scam or any other scam please do not hesitate to get in touch and we can provide a healthcheck on your machine and network.
